Happy HALLOWEEN !!
Great time to be a horror movie fan. Lots of movies in the stores now and great sale prices. I picked up C.H.U.D, Silent Night Deadly Night, Pumpkinhead, and The Hills Have Eyes for $4.99 each (new). Well worth it in my mind.

I fess up. I rented “House Of The Dead” (certainly without doing any research).
Every review I’ve read since I watched the movie has been overwhemingly negative (and for good reason).
I am not writing a review, but rather recommending you watch this piece of garbage … if for no other reason than to give you a feel for what crappy filmaking is really like. I didn’t even know it was based on a video game that I like to play (very loosely “based”). The story line is ridiculous and full of holes. Here’s what sucks about it:
1. Rave on an island. Supposed to be a huge rave. Maybe 20 people were there.
2. Rented a boat to get to island where they’d join friends. Paid $1000 cash for round trip, instead of returning with their friends.
3. Lots of 360 degree panning (ala Matix) around EACH of the characters while they shot at zombies.
4. Zombies that would almost just hang out waiting for their turn to get shot.

On the plus side … boobies and the brother of Ron Howard (in sailor gear).

I know you folks are gore hounds and love the gross stuff. I’m with you. I found this classic online on Google and decided to attach it below. The movie Faces Of Death was one of those movies where it’s reputation preceded itself. It was a rite of passage for a young boy like myself to watch it in it’s entirety. The reality of the movie is that it is primarily special effects and not the snuff film that some wanted you to believe back when it came out in ’78. Regardless, it’s a fun flashback to different times.
Enjoy it while the link works:
Clive Barker’s Midnight Meat Train has gotten some rough treatment from Lions Gate Films. However, on October 30th (for ONE day only), FEARnet will allow you to watch the entire movie for free. They will then be offering the movie on their Video On Demand service. I’m a cheapskate so you know I’m checking it out.
Put it on your Google Calendar or whatever you use to remind yourself of important stuff like this.
Looks like a Black Sheep type story with a subtle (or not so subtle) warning on the risks of genetic engineering. Movie is "Squeal" and it certainly looks interesting. Website here
