I rented “House Of The Dead” (certainly without doing any research).501731 Oops. I made a CRAPTACULAR mistake. House Of The Dead Every review I’ve read since I watched the movie has been overwhemingly negative (and for good reason).

I am not writing a review, but rather recommending you watch this piece of garbage … if for no other reason than to give you a feel for what crappy filmaking is really like. I didn’t even know it was based on a video game that I like to play (very loosely “based”). The story line is ridiculous and full of holes. Here’s what sucks about it:

1. Rave on an island. Supposed to be a huge rave. Maybe 20 people were there.

2. Rented a boat to get to island where they’d join friends. Paid $1000 cash for round trip, instead of returning with their friends.

3. Lots of 360 degree panning (ala Matix) around EACH of the characters while they shot at zombies.

4. Zombies that would almost just hang out waiting for their turn to get shot.

It’s opening in theaters today (July 25th) … however, it will open on a (VERY) limited basis which apparently means that if you live in one of 4 Canadian cities, you can (maybe) go see it today.  That’s rarely a good sign.  Why even have a “theatrical release” if there are 4 cities (all in Canada)??  I thought these were the movies that went straight to DVD.  I guess now only kids movies now go straight to DVD.  Regardless, they got chumps like me out there talking about it, so their promotional efforts work.

Anyway, if it upholds the traditions set in films such as Return of the Living Dead Jack Brooks Monster Slayer , or more recently, Slither Jack Brooks Monster Slayer (or even Shaun of the Dead (and good luck with that)), I will enthusiastically endorse it.   By the way, it does appear to have a fat, tentacled-type creature in it … a la Slither Jack Brooks Monster Slayer ??

Anyway, I like to see Robert Englund in a horror movie trailer … such as below:
